Competitive Trail 24K / 1500 D+
the RACE
The Valdobbiadene Pianezze Trail is a competitive, timed mountain race starting from Piazza Marconi in Valdobbiadene. The route has been revised for the 2024 edition, featuring a new descent and a finish line back in Piazza Marconi, completing a challenging and spectacular 24 km loop with 1450 meters of positive elevation gain.
The race begins immediately with an ascent along Castella, the cemented road that leads from Piazza di Valdobbiadene (252 m asl) to the Church of San Floriano (a panoramic point). This road then leads runners to the historic trail 1007, which is the course of the Valdobbiadene Pianezze Time Trial.
The climb then continues on a single-track, challenging but steady, until reaching Pra’ de Vanin. From here, the race route leaves trail 1007 and joins Strada della Colonia, where competitors can catch their breath and stretch their legs before heading up to trail 1009, which leads to the Balcon Agriturismo.
A second significant ascent begins through large meadows, offering wide views of the northern side of the Prealps. Runners will have the opportunity to admire the Vette Feltrine, the Piave Valley, and the Belluno Dolomites. After passing Malga Lavel, the course takes a panoramic trail beneath the Orsere, where the incline becomes much more pleasant, leading to the crest and then descending into the Val de Marie, where the ruins of old ski lifts stand, remnants of the past winters in the Prealps.
After this short but challenging descent, a gentle climb begins toward “Forzelet,” a junction of various trails connecting to the Segusino side of the Prealps. This is also the start of the final important ascent along the ridge of Monte Cesen, the GPM (King of the Mountain) at 1570 m, where runners can enjoy stunning views ranging from the Venetian Lagoon to Monte Grappa to the south, and from the Valbelluna to the Dolomitic peaks to the north.
A quick but easy descent takes runners to Malga Mariech, followed by a pass through Malga Barbaria, then the Croce di Barbaria and the steep Fagheròn trail, which ends in Piazza Pianezze (1070 m asl). After a short flat section, the course continues with a more demanding descent along the Col Lonc trail through the forest. This leads to the lesser-known “Croda dea Volp” trail, which descends into the Ron Valley. After completing the descent, runners face one last light but decisive climb back to Castella, leading them directly to the finish line in Piazza Marconi for a final sprint downhill.
