The Valdobbiadene Pianezze returns in 2026, once again set against the stunning backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, dominated by Monte Cesen, which lends this competition a unique charm. On Sunday, May 31, the historic Valdobbiadene mountain race will celebrate its 29th edition.

The program is enriched by a major new feature: alongside the traditional races, the Valdobbiadene Pianezze Trail 12K makes its debut, a competitive, timed race designed for those who want to experience mountain running over a shorter distance, without giving up elevation gain, technical terrain, and excitement.

Three races are on the program, all with official timing:

“La Storica” Vertical – 4.3 km / 820 m D+
Trail 24K – 24 km / 1500 m D+
Trail 12K – 12 km / 580 m D+ (new for 2026)

For both the Trail 24K and the Trail 12K, the start and finish will be in Piazza Marconi, Valdobbiadene.
The “La Storica” Vertical will also start from the square, finishing at Piazzale di Pianezze, at an elevation of 1,070 m, along the scenic Sentiero 1007

The history

The Valdobbiadene Pianezze, a historic running event and a symbol of trail running in the Treviso Prealps, was founded in 1996 thanks to the initiative of a group of friends from the local Ski Club and athletics community of Valdobbiadene. One evening among friends, over a small glass of wine and a glass of Prosecco, the idea was born to organize a running challenge between the two associations. The response from the local community was immediate and enthusiastic, rewarding the organizers’ efforts from the very beginning.

Year after year, more and more athletes ventured onto the trails, reaching a peak of 440 registered runners in 2015, the year of the 20th edition. Thanks also to the support of Valdogroup and local Alpini groups, the event continued to grow and strengthen its identity.

After a break in 2016, the organizing committee was renewed and 1007 ASD was established, bringing fresh energy to the event and adapting it to modern trail running standards. In 2019, alongside the historic Vertical 1007, the 24 km Trail was introduced: a spectacular course reaching the slopes and ridgelines of Monte Cesen, further expanding the event’s mountain-running identity.

The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the race returned in a reduced format and outside its traditional date, limited to a 20 km trail course with start and finish at Villa dei Cedri in Valdobbiadene.

In 2022, another major step was taken: the 24 km Trail moved its start and finish to Piazza Marconi in Valdobbiadene, strengthening the connection between the race and the town center. The Vertical remained faithful to its historic route, starting from the heart of Valdobbiadene and finishing in Pianezze, along the scenic Sentiero 1007.

Today, the Valdobbiadene Pianezze continues to evolve. In 2026, the program is further enriched with a new race: the Valdobbiadene Pianezze Trail 12K, designed to offer a shorter yet authentic distance, bringing new athletes closer to mountain running without sacrificing elevation gain, technical terrain, and true trail spirit.

The Valdobbiadene Pianezze has now become a reference event for running and trail running in the Treviso Prealps, thanks to the synergy between the organizing committee and a close-knit community of passionate supporters who continue to help the event grow year after year.
